12.12 miles

My lil’ sister stayed with me for a week following Christmas — her first trip to Santa Monica — and on top of doing the normal touristy things such as cruising Hollywood and Beverly Hills we opted to walk Santa Monica. I don’t think either one of us expected to walk as far as we did:

Santa Monica walk

  1. left my place (roughly Colorado and Stewart)
  2. quick stop at Yahoo! for the grand tour
  3. continued down Colorado to the 3rd St Promenade
  4. up 3rd to Wilshire
  5. Wilshire to the beach
  6. walked along the beach through Venice just past Muscle Beach
  7. stopped for a quick bite in Venice
  8. back up Main St to Colorado for the return home

Grand Total: 12.12 miles (according to a rough trace of our steps in Google Earth). Not bad.

Other highlights from the visit include a trip to Didi Reese, a walk of the UCLA campus, and a drive out to the Hollywood sign (as close as we could get anyway).

Our 2006 Year in Review

What better way to kick off a new blog then with a Year in Review? Lydia wrote a poem highlighting the last, and our first, 12 months together. Enjoy.

We hope this note finds you in good cheer
As we recap all of our highlights this year.
We kicked off 2006 with a fitting toast —
A long weekend of wine tasting just up the coast.

College hoops immersed us in games and stats
And we trekked up to USC to watch the Cats.
March landed us up north in the Bay
Hitting Sonoma with family, bottling chardonnay.

The long days of spring and summer we spent
At many an outdoor sports event.
Dodgers, Angels, volleyball at the beach
And tennis on our own, a few wins each.

Before we knew it we were back with Lyd’s fam
To party, eat and listen to dad jam.
Then it was off to Portland for Bryan and Gayle
And Curtis’ whole crew, hitting the ale trail.

Bryan and Curtis all dressed up

Fall began in San Diego in search of more beer
Seems like we’ve been drinking all damn year!
Then to Tucson for Curtis’ fam and football
And a Cal upset I’d rather not mention at all.

Curtis cheers, Lydia pouts

We wrapped up our year with parties galore:
Turkey, holiday bashes, menorahs and more.
Christmas with Curtis and New Year low key,
All told, I’d say we’ve been pretty lucky.
